How does Industry 4.0 solutions influence the shop-floor workers satisfaction and productivity?

To determine that impact over the workers (and subsequent corrective measures) is the main goal of FACTS4WORKERS WP6. The first deliverable of this WP is D6.1, the “Evaluation Framework”. This report shows a set of methods and tools to be used to measure the impact of an Industry 4.0 solution over the workers satisfaction (along its different deployment phases and also depending on the maturity of the solution). The framework has tools and methods to measure the cognitive satisfaction and also the innovation and problem-solving skills, which also lead to a productivity assessment.

The Framework tries to use two different approaches to reach its goals. Firstly, a solid very known and used approach is being adapted to the Project needs. This approach uses people driven interventions to assess both the impact and their validation of the deployed solutions (even the very first proof of concepts) along the Project. Typical tools for this approach are focus groups, interviews, surveys, observation, etc.

The second approach tries to analyze information acquired during the use of the deployed solutions, ideally automatically generated and obtained for the solutions themselves. This approach is considered as a good one for large amount of data in order to perform longitudinal analysis even beyond the Project end, always with no intrusive methods and, as the first approach, taking into account the workers legal and privacy requirements. Both approaches will give us information for refining the deployed solutions and also to better know the worker satisfaction determinants.

The initial Framework definition will be completed and also assessed until the end of the Project. Thus, it will be used to evaluate the different interventions that the development of solutions for the identified 8 use cases needs. This way we want to accomplish a double goal:

  • To identify improvements for the framework itself, testing its tools and methods in real scenarios: Legal issues, stakeholders to be taken into account, new methods and tools, etc.
  • To determine the improvement opportunities for the BBs involved in the assessment, in order to enhance the Project final results.

Ultimately, the framework aims to evaluate the impact of the Project solutions on the workers in the most objectively possible way, as well as to determine improvement opportunities and actions.
